I have this great training from Tony Robbins that I purchased quite a few years ago. It's called Get the Edge. In it are TONS of great tips for success in health, finances, career and relationships. In one part Robbins gives 7 key tips for success in any endeavor. I want to highlight 4 of the key success tips from that training in this post. I will highlight the other 3 in the next post.
This is a very simple concept. You literally have to get to the point that you are so sick of not realizing your goals, hopes and dreams that you are physically and emotionally disturbed about it. In other words you have to say to yourself:
“I am sick of this and I am NOT going to take it anymore!”
For most of us it is only when we are at a place of total emotional and mental frustration that we will finally dig ourselves in, stop making inane excuses, and go for our hopes and dreams. The question for you and me really is …
Are you literally disturbed by your lack of success?
Make a Decision
Once you are completely disturbed you MUST decide to do something about it. No excuses can or should hold you back. You should decide what you will do , specifically, to turn it all around. The difference between successful and unsuccessful people is right here:
Successful people DECIDED they would change their lives.
They knew that it was up to them, and them alone, to make their dreams become a reality. I came to that place of decision. I realized that the reason I had not enjoyed success the way I wanted to enjoy it came down to only one thing: I had NOT decided to change my life. I got tired of the blame game and the excuses. I made the decision that started this journey toward the success I have always wanted. It was one of the best decisions of my life.
Make a Massive Action Plan: M. A. P.
Results will only come when you and I plan for them. Words like “luck” and “chance” are words rarely used by the successful people of this world. Successful people make their own luck and create their own opportunities. Robbins said that action is not enough. He said:
The action you take needs to be massive and all-consuming. It must be emotionally charged action!
My first action step was to align myself with two very successful home business marketers. I joined their team and each day I diligently follow their training. Everyday I take many action steps that move me closer and closer to the full accomplishment of my dreams and goals. I dive into more training programs and implement all that I learn. Results are coming faster than I expected. Some of the training programs can be found HERE (and they are FREE).
Massive action is a major key to success. Wishing, hoping, and wanting are paths to failure. Focused action is the key!
Overcome your Limiting Beliefs
I used to argue with those who constantly told me that success is rooted in a proper mindset. I couldn't understand how my thoughts could possibly control my results. But Earl Nightingale taught us that EXPECTANCY begins in the mind of people. Expectancy is a state of believing that we should expect good things to happen rather than simply hope for them. If we don't expect good results we likely will never see good results.
Robbins stressed that many of us constantly focus on why we can't succeed rather than why we can. Limiting beliefs are the things we tell ourselves about our expectations. We self-sabotage our success by constantly telling ourselves that we will not succeed or this will not work. We simply must overcome the tendency to always focus on why things will not work for us.

There are plenty of “success” tips for network marketing out there. Many are good and many are fluff. I have determined that it is the old tried and true methods that still work best. And while I am no longer involved in the typical network marketing company, I have found that my suggestions below have been very beneficial in growing my business. I know they will work for any business or company.
I recently decided to plant a small garden in my backyard. I have NEVER planted anything in my life. I got the idea while I was at Walmart with my wife. We were in the Lawn and Garden department and I saw the garden seed display. I thought, “What they hey, I think I will plant some radishes and watermelons.” I bought the seeds and ran home and followed the directions on the packet. Interestingly in about a week I saw little sprouts coming through the soil. I was hooked. It was just so cool to see those sprouts.
I ran back down to Walmart and bought cucumbers, squash, lettuce, tomatoes, cabbage, beets, zucchini, and peppers. My passion was ablaze.
As I planted each seed and watched the beginnings of a harvest it dawned on me that there are a few lessons for success in network marketing businesses within my gardening adventure. I thought I would share a few.
Develop a Passion for the Business
If I have learned anything about success in gardening it is this … you must obtain a passion for it. I have come to love it. Every morning I dash out to my garden to see the new growth. I am always met with something new and exciting. Baby cucumbers have been born and tomatoes have become redder (Is that a word?). The squash is advancing to new levels of size and yellowness. It is so cool!
In our business we must have that same kind of passion. We must wake up with a desire make contacts, share the products and/or opportunity, and dive into more training. As I have studied gardening I have learned that there is always more to learn. There are problems to solve. It is the same with home-based businesses and network marketing. LEARN with PASSION!
Don't Succumb to Discouragement
Learning gardening has been interesting to say the least. I have had days when the leaves on every plant were literally wilting. Some even looked dead. For the moment I was discouraged and thought I was a failure. But I returned to Youtube for insights and discovered that plants just do that. It may have been too hot or they received too much water (Yes, I over-watered). I discovered that the discouraging moments provide an opportunity to learn something new.
Isn't it the same with our business? Can't moments of seeming discouragement actually be an opportunity to learn something new. If something seems awry, simply investigate the problem. Youtube is an excellent source. I also am always willing to help you solve a problem. Simply contact me. No charge. No pressure. I am sure the answer will be revealed. Yes, you will have moments of discouragement … but stay the course, you probably over-watered 🙂
Pull the Weeds and Kill the Bad Bugs
I know. You saw this one coming. Everyone knows that with gardens come weeds and bugs. ALL weeds are bad and most bugs that raid a garden are bad too. There are some bugs that are our friends. They pollinate and help the plants grow and develop. But most need extermination. If not, they will enjoy the fruit of your labors. They will simply eat your plants and veggies.
If you don't pull the weeds they will draw the nutrients from the soil that your garden needs. So, no matter what preventative measures you take, some weeds will emerge. You must roll up your sleeves and pull them out one by one.
Bugs and weeds can invade our network marketing business too. They appear as negative thought weeds – things that absorb your mental energy and take your mind to places other than where it should be in your business. Weeds are the thoughts that arise and you find yourself saying that you can't do it.
Here is the truth. If you tell yourself you can't make it, you will prove yourself right. If you tell yourself that you can and will, you will find that you can and will.
They also appear as bugs (negative people who tell you that you are silly to try to compete in the online world). Bug people eat away at your hopes and dreams. Exterminate them from your business garden. They can remain friends but simply choose to exterminate their negative comments. They are wrong. They are likely jealous that you have the guts to go for your dreams. Stay closer to the good bugs; those that pollinate and replenish your business garden. There are people in your life that believe in you. They will pollinate your goals with words of encouragement. Always welcome them into your garden.
Yes, Patience is Still a Virtue
I planted my garden in early April and at the time of this writing only minimal results can be seen. But they are GOOD RESULTS. No, I can't harvest any veggies just yet but I can clearly see the day coming. I see baby cucumbers and small peppers. I see budding yellow flowers (a sign that a veggie has been conceived). I see new little tomatoes and expanding cantaloupe vines. Soon, VERY soon, I will benefit greatly from this effort … and so will many other people.
Be patient with your network marketing business. It will take time. I have been through a lot of the training and I have not heard anyone say that it will be a fast road. What they say is that with patience and consistency the day of the harvest is inevitable. Be patient. Stay the course! And if you just can't seem to stay the course with your chosen business, perhaps what I do may be perfect for you. firstname.lastname@example.org
Enjoy the Harvest
My strawberry plant produced one beautiful red strawberry recently. All the others are still small and green. It was almost like the plant was wanting to give me an appetizer of what is to come. I ate that strawberry and yes, it was awesome! Why? Because I planted it. How could it not be awesome? My point is simply this: The fruit will come in abundance.
You may not be seeing the rich fruit of your labors just yet but if you do the above things I suggest, you will. It is simply a law of the universe. Too many people leave or quit when the harvest is closer than they may realize. Don't be one of those people. You are better than that. How do I know? Because you were smart enough to go for your dreams and launch out in business!

Everyone (and I do mean everyone) who joins a network marketing company does so in order to make money. Now, the amount of money is relative. Some want to make a full-time income. Some want to supplement retirement. Others may only want a few hundreds bucks to lighten the load each month. In any case, EVERYONE who joins a network marketing company does so to earn money. The question is really, how to make money in network marketing. Here are a few thoughts.
First, Know What Not to Do | Crazy Product and Business Pitching
The biggest mistake you can (and likely will) make is to get your business kit, make a list of 100 people you know either directly or indirectly, and go after them with the products or the opportunity. It doesn't matter how big your smile or sincerity is. Learn this first a foremost, network marketing is a relationship business. People do not join companies, they join people. And they only join people that they know, like, and trust.
You see, the 100 people we know is one thing. It's a good thing. But it doesn't necessarily mean that these people have all three ideals (know, like, and trust) toward us. They may know you and even like you, but they may not trust your business savvy. If you are just starting out then they will question your business or success credibility. Nothing is more frustrating than hearing this question: “Are you making money with this?” The likelihood is that your aren't. And for many people that means you have no credibility (ie, they don't trust that aspect of you).
When you are just starting out, tell people this a new endeavor and that you are in a pre-launch phase. See if they are keeping their financial options open and if so ask them if they are they willing to consider building alongside of you. If so, then introduce them to someone in your upline who IS earning significant income.
Join a Dedicated Team | A Supporting Cast
Network marketing is not a “go it alone” business. You need support, encouragement, inspiration, and training from a group of people who are also growing a business. Many network marketing leaders create Facebook or LinkedIn groups for people who are in their downline. On these pages are testimonials of what works and what doesn't. There are insights from people who have had successes (and failures) within the company. Getting this information can be invaluable and can save you time, energy, effort, and even money. This approach is simply among the best things you can do to start generating a residual income.
I am not involved in a traditional network marketing company any longer, but I am involved in the direct sales industry. And I am involved in a great group that provides all the training, encouragement and one-on-one help I need. I tried going it alone for years in other companies and the results were dismal and painful. Today I see daily success due to my involvement with a dedicated, supporting cast.
Tell Your Story | Honesty is STILL the Best Policy
Hype, games, and bells and whistles are still commonplace in the industry of network marketing. But if you really want to learn how to make money in network marketing then simply get back to the basics of honesty and integrity. There is power in YOUR story. Word of mouth is still the most potent tool we have in life and business. Last week my wife and I searched for a restaurant someone told us had the best burgers around. We followed the GPS to where that restaurant was supposed to be and there was nothing there. But because we wanted that burger someone told us about, we spent the next 30 minutes looking for it. YES! We found it and it WAS the best burger in town!
Simply be honest. Be nice. Be real. Don't be hypy and overly excited about the products or the opportunity. Simply look for natural ways for the subject to come up and share how and why the products and/or opportunity has benefitted you. I refer my company's products every day without fail. I usually don't look for the chance. Natural conversation about the products just tend to rise and I share my story. People almost always are interested.
Always remember that most people hate hype! Just be real. If your upline is hypy, stay away from them and even consider changing companies.

It's an interesting article title, “What about network marketing?” But according to my research thousands of people search that term every month. Why? I am not sure. But I will share some thoughts on the question as I understand and interpret it. So here are a few thoughts related to the question.
What is Network Marketing?
According to Wikipedia, network marketing/multilevel marketing is a means of conducting business in which a team of committed sales people earn commissions not merely for sales of products and services they generate, but also for the generated sales of their recruits (people they bring into the business), which creates a down-line of independent business owners (distributors) and a pecking order of multiple levels of compensation.
Should You Join Network Marketing?
That question is best answered by reading this post —> Should I Join Network Marketing? … but in short the answer is, maybe. You have to be a certain kind of person to join a typical network marketing company. For one, you have to be amazingly outgoing. You have to be willing to talk up your products (or services) along with the business opportunity ALL the time. Why? Because most people will simply not be interested. So, you will always be on the lookout for customers and potential recruits.
Another thing to consider is the time it will take to actually build a reasonable income. If you are on the slow road and the idea of a few years to really get it going doesn't concern you, then you are a good candidate. If, however, you need to turn over money quickly then you may need to consider other options.
Is Network Marketing a Scam?
The industry as a whole is NOT a scam. There are some good companies out there. Are there countless ruthless people and companies in the industry? YES!!! Have thousands upon thousands of people been scammed over the years? Yes!!! Can you lose TONS of money by putting it in the pockets of the so-called industry leaders? YES!!!
The network marketing industry lost the credibility and trust factor in the eyes of millions of people seemingly decades ago. Many people, perhaps even most, believe the industry is a scam and therefore much of the customer base is already against you. Whether the industry is a scam or not doesn't really matter. What matters is that hundreds of thousands of people believe that it is. The old adage, “Perception is reality” is certainly applicable to the network marketing world. As noted there are some good companies out there. .
